I must have read Britt Bennett’s The Mothers in a single weekend. From the very first page, you’re trying to determine what the hell happened. The story deals with a young, teenager, Nadia, trying to cope with the her mother’s suicide. And in the midst of all of it, she finds herself caught up in a couple of scandals. And the reveal is worth the wait. The writing is so vivid and the story so compelling that it only makes sense that it be adapted into some type of movie.

And apparently, that’s exactly what’s happening. Not only is it coming to the screen, Kerry Washington is set to produce it with Simpson Street Productions, the same company that was behind the HBO film Confirmation.

Bennett, whose debut novel landed on The New York Times’  Best sellers list, will write the screenplay and executive produce the project.

Warner Bros. is set to adapt the book into a film, the first Simpson Street feature film for the company.

Can’t wait for this!
